IT LOOKS like the Electoral Area Elections system that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) used to select their parliamentary candidates recently, has come to stay.
Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, the Afigya Kwabre South Constituency NPP Chairman, has stated that the electoral area election system is the best for the party so it should be maintained.
The ruling political party, by their tradition, used to organize a conference, where hundreds or thousands of party delegates converge at one place to elect their parliamentary candidates.
But due to the COVID-19 pandemic protocols, especially social distancing advice from health experts to stop the spread of the virus, the party opted for electoral area election this time around as a temporary measure.
According to Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, the electoral area system has countless of positives therefore he is suggesting that the party should maintain it in future party MP elections.
He said “some of the positives of the system includes eliminating the risk of vehicular accidents, whilst transporting party delegates to the voting centers and back to their homes.
“This system also ensures transparency in the voting system as few number of party people are supposed to cast their ballot in each electoral area, so cheating is also eliminated.
“Also, this system reduces the huge cost that the party spends on parliamentary polls alone and it also reduces electoral tension as well, so the party should consider maintaining it in future elections”.
He congratulated the NPP for conducting a peaceful parliamentary elections across the various constituencies, noting that the peaceful polls is an indication that the NPP is ready for the December 7 polls.
Odeneho Kwaku Appiah also admonished the teeming NPP members and sympathisers to start campaigning vigorously to enable the party to emerge victorious in the presidential and parliamentary polls.
