There was a near-stampede at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium Saturday afternoon apparently caused by the presence of Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK), a wannabe-General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when he showed up at the venue during the party’s Regional Executive elections.
It was surprising how the crowd, mostly NPP delegates and party faithful, in a matter of minutes, formed around JFK also known as ‘Okumkom’ and were heard chanting his name and yelling various forms of appellations including “Okumkom To Break The 8”, “Okumkom The Grassroots Mobilizer”, “Incoming G-S” among others.
While most of the people cheered him on, many forced their way to take selfies with him causing quite a hold up and delay in his movement.
The delay heightened the crowd which grew thicker and eventually he had to move on while smiling, waving back and occasionally blowing kisses into the air.
Justine Frimpong Kodua, an astute Lawyer and current Chief Executive of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has been touted as the candidate to beat in the party’s General Secretary race slated for July 16.
He had served as Deputy Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer from 2010 to 2014 and then as substantive Regional Organizer from 2014 to 2017.
During the period, Okumkom’s exceptional organizational acumen, amiable interpersonal relationship and unrivaled ability to mobilise and stimulate the energies of the party in the Region into a positive action has remained the talk of town till date.
The rousing welcome JFK received at the Regional Elections venue and in no other place but the Ashanti Region, a political world bank of votes for the NPP is a positive indication of his likability and the confidence his party faithful have in him.
Okumkom JFK has been a member of the Ashanti Regional Campaign Team since 2008. He was also a member of the team responsible for collating the Region’s electoral results for the party.
His style has been that of all inclusiveness and broad consultations with all stakeholders.
He has explained passionately that the party cannot continue to do things as it did in the past and expect to improve in its political fortunes.
“We can’t do things the old ways and expect improved results. We need to be creative and innovative as a party. With me as the next General Secretary of the NPP, our party will leverage technology to ensure efficiency in its administration and operations.
“The General Secretary’s work is a full-time job according to our party’s constitution, and I promise to do exactly that in accordance with the provisions in our constitution”, JFK stated in a recent interview on his quest to be the party’s Chief Scribe.
