NPP Germany Cancels Election
… Charles Gyimah Acts As Chairman
The Germany Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP-Germany) has called off its Chairmanship election following a case of over-voting discovered during the counting.
According to a statement issued by the branch Secretary of the party, Dr. Kwaku Anane-Gyinde, there were numerous petitions from several chapters and some individuals alleging various forms of irregularities, and malpractices by some members of the Election Committee, hence the need to cancel the election.
The leadership of the party, in accordance to Article 9 (D) (iii) of the constitution, has therefore announced Mr. Charles Gyimah, the First Vice-Chairman, as the acting Chairman of the branch until the issues raised are resolved.
A member of the Germany branch of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Rebecca Aboagye Sarpong (Obaatanpa), is recalled to have petitioned the National Executives of the party to cancel the results of the recently held polls at Düsseldorf, Germany.
According to her, the elections were characterized with several infractions including over-voting.
The leadership of the party (NEC) in Germany, in keeping with rules and regulations, has referred all the petitions to the National Council (Germany) for consideration and action.
“Clearly, as a party that has been built and thrives on the rule of law, it is critical that these issues be thoroughly investigated and properly interrogated to ensure that all the parties involved are accorded fair, equal and just treatment,” the statement mentioned.
Members of the party have been urged to respect the laid down processes that have been initiated to bring the election dispute to an amicable end.
