Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has assured party supporters she will work hard to retain the seat as Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West Constituency in the impending December general elections.
The Communications Minister made the disclosure in a message read on her behalf by leading member of the party, Robert Kwesi Hayfron Nicol when forms were picked for her on Wednesday.
Addressing delegates who had thronged the party office to grace the occasion, Robert Nicol, said Mrs Owusu-Ekuful is determined to lead the party again into victory in 2020.
”Madam Ursula is determined to win power again here for all in the Ablekuma West Constituency due to her several projects she has started. She has embarked on several developmental projects, including facilitating the construction of roads and the launching of work, pay and own taxi scheme.
”The scheme has since empowered the beneficiaries economically as they were given a period of three years to make payments. Mrs Owusu-Ekuful is credited for spearheading government’s digitisation agenda, which has helped transform Ghana’s socio-economic development among other things. Her good deeds and hard work has and will speak for her.” he said.
He paid an amount of GHC2000 in bankers draft and was issued a receipt covering the payment by the party executives. It is however not known yet if Mrs Owusu-Ekufful will face any opposition within the NPP.
Unity
Robert Nicol further challenged members of the party not to allow the upcoming parliamentary primaries to break their front.
He explained that although it was time for parliamentary aspirants to contest in their constituencies, it did not call for fighting with their opponents in the contest.
He urged members of the party to vote for winnable candidates who stood the chance of winning or retaining their parliamentary seats for the party.
He stressed on the need for unity in the party and called on the constituency chairpersons to build on the structures they have inherited to ensure a strong party capable of winning elections in December.
He also urged NPP supporters to stand together and put the good of the party first, noting that “we are not each other’s opponents or enemies.
Primaries
The ruling New Patriotic Party is expected to hold Parliamentary primaries in areas where it has sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) on April 25, 2020.
The NPP has I69 sitting Members of Parliament out of the total 275 seats in Parliament.
The party has already elected more than 95 Parliamentary candidates who would be contesting on its ticket in orphan constituencies [areas the party does not have sitting MPs].
The same April 25, 2020 date would also be used to elect a flagbearer for the party for Election 2020.
