NPP swerves Bawumia Boy …And Confirms Asawase DCE
ATTEMPTS BY Manaf Ibrahim, an aide of Vice President Bawumia, to stop the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from confirming Alidu Seidu, as the Asawase Parliamentary Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2020 polls, has failed.
This follows the successful confirmation of Seidu, the MCE for Asokore Mampong at a colourful party programme at Adukrom, on Saturday.
Prior to the programme, there were reports that Manaf, who had been suspended from the party and was thus disqualified from the race, had secured a court injunction to stop the programme, but that could not be as elated-looking party delegates, unanimously confirmed Alidu Seidu as their Parliamentary Candidate once again.
The confirmation of Seidu therefore means there would be a rematch between him and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Asawase, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka in next years’ election.
Addressing the delegates after his confirmation, Alidu Seidu promised to snatch the Asawase seat from the NDC and break the political monopoly of the NDC in the constituency.
Meanwhile, Sam Pyne, the Ashanti Regional NPP Scribe told newsmen that the Ashanti Regional NPP hadn’t received any injunction from the courts, “so we have not erred in anyway”.
In a related development, at Sekyere Afram Plains and Ejura Sekyeredumase, the NPP has also confirmed Joseph Owusu and Mohammed Salisu Bamba, respectively, as their parliamentary candidates for the 2020 elections.
The two candidates also assured to lead the party to win their seats so that after the 2020 elections the NDC would not have a single parliamentary seat in the Ashanti region.
