The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi, has been relieved of his duties.
Dodzie Numekevor has been appointed to replace him in an acting capacity until a permanent appointment is made.
The appointment of Mr. Numekevor, signed by Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante on February 26, 2024, gives him 14 days to accept the role.
Rumors of Prof Twumasi’s impending removal had circulated two weeks ago, with JoySports reporting that he was summoned to the Jubilee House to address various issues.
Despite his plea for leniency, it seems he was unable to persuade the appointing authority to retain him, as his dismissal was communicated to the board around the same time.
Prof Twumasi had assumed the position of Director General of the Authority on December 10, 2018, taking over from Robert Sarfo Mensah who resigned after being implicated in the ‘number 12’ exposé by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger Eye PI.
Additionally, several regional NSA heads – Salamatu Alhassan (Northern), Alexander Tiiku (Central), Emmanuel Appiah (Ashanti), and Daniel Sarpei (Volta) – have been transferred to the head office in Accra.
