Nsawam Adoagyir Assembly Indicted in ¢80,000 State Revenue Loss

The Auditor General has indicted the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly for failing to recover over GHS 80,000 from four revenue collectors who could not account for monies they collected.

This development, according to the 2015 Auditor General’s report, is as a result of the lack of supervision of the Assembly’s finance officers.

Speaking at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting in Ho, the Municipal Finance Officer, Yusif Asumadu, argued that the said monies had been retrieved.

He was however unable to back his claim with documentary evidence.

The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, James Kludze Avedzi, consequently directed the Finance Officer to make available documents covering the recovery of the amount to auditors in a week.

The Committee this week is considering the 2015 Auditor General’s report for the Eastern and Volta Regions in Ho.

The Committee over the past few weeks has been holding public hearings in various parts of the country.

Last week, it held sittings in the Central Region on the 2015 Auditor General’s report.

Among the issues that came up at that sitting included Assin North Senior High School being cited for spending GHc163,000 without receipts and invoices to verify the payments.

The Gomoa East District Assembly was also questioned over their GHc 80,000 Common Fund expenditure on the funeral of a former District Chief Executive [DCE] in 2015.
