A 58 YEAR-OLD commercial driver is in police custody after his bus knocked and killed a man, aged 29 around 8:30pm on February 30, 2021 at Oteng Nkwanta near Santase Anyinam on the Obuasi-Kumasi Highway.
The accident attracted scores of curious people to the scene and the body of the deceased, identified as Fosu Ababio, has been deposited in a morgue, ahead of autopsy.
The driver, identified as Andre Emmanuel, has told the police that he could not be blamed for the accident.
According to him, his Grandbird bus, registered GT 4981-20, was from Kumasi and it was heading to Obuasi.
Upon reaching Oteng Nkwanta near Santase Anyinam, he alleged that Fosu Ababio, crossed his bus suddenly.
According to the driver, since Fosu crossed his bus suddenly, he could not prevent the car from hitting him.
“Suspect driver Andre Emmanuel, 58, was in charge of a Grandbird commercial bus, registered GT 4981-20. The bus, fully loaded with passengers was from Kumasi to Obuasi direction”, a police report sighted by the paper said.
“On reaching section of the road at Oteng Nkwanta near Santasi-Anyinam he alleged to have been crossed suddenly by Fosu Ababio, aged 29 and as a result knocked him down in the process.
“Victim sustained degree of injuries and was rushed to KATH where he was pronounced dead on arrival”, the report indicated.
The police has kept the driver in custody and also impounded the vehicle at the station as investigations continued.
