Occupy Ghana asks OSP to unveil majority leader’s businessman

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, recently, via Joy FM,  told the world of an unnamed but well known businessman who attempted to mediate in Parliament to get some aggrieved members from the Majority Group who were agitating for sack of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu made the comments at a time speculations were rife that someone had attempted to bribe the said MPs with momentary inducements but they rejected the criminal inducement.

On Tuesday, socio-political pressure group, OccupyGhana said it had petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate the allegations put out by the majority Leader about  the unnamed wealthy businessman who attempted to bribe the Members of Parliament .

A statement from OccupyGhana noted: “We have followed media reports from interviews by Joy FM with Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu (MP, Suame, Majority Leader, and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs), and Andy Appiah-Kubi (MP, Asante Akim North), which have been widely circulated by other media portals.

“In these interviews, the MPs alleged that an unnamed, wealthy businessman had attempted to bribe them.”

It said “we wish to draw your attention to these allegations and to petition your good office to investigate these allegations, and if the allegations are established to be true, proceed to prosecute.

“We will be available to assist with this request should there be any assistance from our end, the statement added.

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu had told Evans Mensah of Joy FM in the heat of the revolt against Ken Ofori-Atta, the said businessman met some of the legislators and “tried to do something.”

““I’m told on authority that some businessman came here and tried to do something,” Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said but did not mention the name of the business man or what exactly he did.

He however explained that it was meant to help persuade the members of the house against nudging the Minister out of office.

“I was told that he came here and tried to mediate in his own way what he thinks the problem is,” he said.

He further narrated that “he was repelled by the people and told he was told not to involve himself. So he went away.”
