Ofosu-Ampofo Sues Tikese
Outspoken radio presenter, Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, host of the ‘Ade Akye Abia’ morning show on Okay FM, has been dragged before court for supposedly making defamatory comments against Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, a former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development and second vice chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
Whatever Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, had supposedly said against Ofosu-Ampofo, has angered the latter to an extent he has also joined the station, Okay 101.7 FM, in the suit.
Some five other persons are also named in the suit in which the NDC senior member, Ofosu-Ampofo is claiming aggravated damages in the sum of ten million cedis.
According to the writ of summons, sighted by THE PUBLISHER, Kwame Nkrumah Tikese aided the other defendants to republish and air on Okay FM a story that that the plaintiff, Ofosu-Ampofo, leaked what has been described as the “Kwesi Botchwey Report”
Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, known in political circles as “Bra Sammy Photo” says he was defamed by the story which quoted a certain Bismark Tawiah Boateng, the Eastern Regional Chairman of party that he had leaked the Kwesi Botchwey Committee report to the media.
The Plaintiff avers further that the defendants jointly and severally published or caused to be published the defamatory statements with a malicious intent recklessly, knowing they were false or not caring whether they were true or false having calculated that the benefit to them in terms of proceeds from the publication would outweigh any compensation payable to the plaintiff.
According to the former Minister of Local Government and Former National Organiser of the NDC, the words (we cannot reproduce) in their natural and ordinary meaning meant and were understood to mean that he the National Vice Chairman of the National NDC, dishonestly and without leaked the said report. even though the NDC has officially declared and kept the report as a confidential document;
The lawyers of the plaintiff said per the comments among others, the National Vice Chairman of the Party is seem as a traitor to the NDC’s cause of forging unity amongst its members and has been unprofessional, unscrupulous and untrustworthy.
As a result “Bra Sammy Photo” is demanding damages for libel in the sum of Ten Million Cedis, (GH¢ 10,000,000.00); General Damages for libel; a perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants and each of them, their servants, or agents or assigns from further publishing or causing to be published the said or similar words defamatory of the Plaintiff.
