OKESS Student Killed, 2 Grabbed
TWO ROBBERY suspects are now in police grips following the stabbing to death of a final-year student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) in the Tafo Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Nineteen-year-old Godfred Atta was reportedly stabbed in the neck twice by some robbers, who were fleeing the school’s campus after a successful robbery expedition.
The sad incident happened in the school around 11.30pm on Wednesday when final-year students were busy learning.
The deceased, who was heading to one of the classrooms to study, ahead of his final West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) paper on Thursday morning, was stabbed in the neck with a pair of scissors.
The victim was put in a tricycle and rushed to the Trinity Hospital at Pankrono, but was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel at post at the time.
The Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi and other top government officials in the region, rushed to the school on Thursday morning for first-hand information on the situation.
The overwhelmed Mayor described the incident as very shocking and sad, considering the fact that the deceased was just some hours away from completing his SHS education.
He disclosed that the police had arrested two suspects and that efforts were being made to nab the rest.
He passionately appealed to the students, teaching staff and workers in the school to remain calm, assuring them that a disaster of such nature would not happen in the school again.
Meanwhile, some parents, upon hearing the news, rushed to the campus to take their children home, but the school officials prevented them.
In a related development, unconfirmed information making rounds indicate that, with the exception of the final year students, who are writing their examination, the school had been temporarily closed down until Tuesday.
