THE 44 YEAR old Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) project at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) will be pulled down on the coming weeks.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government had provided the needed amount of money to once-and-for-all complete the project that started 44 years ago.
But the contractor, engaged by government to work on the project, has warned that the structure looked weak so it was not appropriate to complete it.
In line with this, the contractor has suggested that the old looking building be demolished immediately so that a new one would be constructed in its place.
Simon Osei Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, speaking on radio, said the contractor’s advice would be considered for the project to be demolished.
According to him, the contractor has assured that they could use the same amount for the completion of the old project, to construct the new MBU for KATH.
“The contractor has assured that they can use the same amount and time to complete the old building, which is to be demolished, to build the new MBU”.
He said stakeholders were now doing sensitisation ahead of the demolition exercise, saying that there would be a final meeting soon before the demolition takes place.
