OSA Chases ‘Unwholesome’ Orange Sellers
The Orange Sellers Association (OSA) has threatened to arrest persons selling unwholesome oranges in the country.
According to the group, effective March 1, 2018, the taskforce mandated to ensure the safety of consumers wound be deployed to all points of sale in Accra.
Speaking at a news conference in Accra yesterday, Rev Mary Owusu, President of the Association said “We know all their points of sale in Accra and we are coming after them if they don’t stop”.
She stated that the Association will continue to monitor and regulate the activities of all orange suppliers to ensure that consumers are served with the best oranges.
Rev. Owusu expressed worry over the unwillness of some orange suppliers to join the Association hence “supplying oranges that are not ripe to the market and to our cherished consumers.”
“The Association is with the firm believe that oranges to be sold to consumers are ripe. We are urging those supplying unripe oranges in the market to stop as it is against our marketing code.”
The concerns of the Association comes months after some orange sellers were caught using unapproved chemicals to colour their oranges to make them attractive, an act which nearly affected the consumption of oranges in the country.
