OSP’s report on Airbus scandal is very scandalous – Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

Member of Parliament(MP) for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has described the report by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) exonerating the former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, of any wrongdoing as scandalous.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor, at a press conference last week, emphasized the fact that John Dramani Mahama had been identified as the ‘Government official One’ in the Airbus scandal that was international.

However, he remarked that there was no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the former president.

The National Democratic Congress in a statement indicated that they had held the position that their leader was clean and nothing could taint him.

But in an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu expressed a diverse opinion about the report by the OSP describing it as scandalous.

“I believe it is a scandalous report from the OSP. The OSP is working on some parts of the Attorney General’s power. The Attorney General is inundated with work, hence the decision to set up the OSP to help its work.

Even the Attorney General’s department under whose power the OSP exist does not close cases. If they are unable to get the needed information on a particular case, they drop the case but do not close the docket because crime investigations are always ongoing. It is only the court that has the power to clear someone of wrongdoing.

For him to say that he has cleared someone is wrong. It doesn’t sit in law. He says he is not getting the needed assistance from the courts in America and the United Kingdom. What is he expecting from the court? All the court can do is provide its ruling. There is no way any court will want to provide you with their witnesses among others.

Martin Amidu started this investigation and in 2020, when we were going into the elections, he told us that the government Official One mentioned in the scandal was John Mahama. John Mahama came out to insult him, indicating that Martin Amidu was making stupid conclusions. He denied being ‘Government Official One’ but the courts in America and the United Kingdom identified Government Official One as one who receives bribes,” he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.
