Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has addressed the reports linking Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi to the Ghana national team.
Amidst rumours of Hudson-Odoi’s potential switch from England to Ghana, Addo expressed his openness to working with any committed player.
Born in England to Ghanaian parents, Hudson-Odoi has an impressive track record with England’s youth teams. He has played three matches for England’s senior team and has notable appearances in various youth categories, including nine matches and four goals for England U21 and 22 matches and five goals for England U17.
Despite these appearances, Hudson-Odoi remains eligible to represent Ghana under FIFA’s eligibility rules. Addo’s willingness to welcome dedicated players highlights Ghana’s potential benefit from Hudson-Odoi’s talent.
In response to the speculation, Otto Addo commented, “So far not yet. Also heard people saying this [Hudson-Odoi being invited],” he told 3Sports.
“To me, nobody came to me so far but we are open for everyone who wants to join. If somebody wants to join, a special player like him, we’re always open.”
Addo emphasised the importance of players embracing the Ghanaian culture, highlighting the team’s inclusive and harmonious environment.
He stated, “I think it’s very important that whoever comes buys into the Ghanaian culture. And the culture is very, very good. Ever since I’ve been here Muslims get along well with Christians, and we have different tribes. All I can say is, surely sometimes there are problems, but as a team, we all connect very well. This is so good to see that things can work even though somebody comes from this part or that part of the world. We all come together as one and this is so important.”
