The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is said to have mentioned the names of persons within the corridors of power he suspects of scheming to undermine him.
Otumfuo was reported to have made the complaint at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi last Wednesday during a mini durbar to celebrate the Awukudae, which is one of the key festivals in the Asante Kingdom.
Coincidentally, the durbar was attended by several big wigs from the ruling government including the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, John Boadu the acting General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Osei Assibey, Kumasi Mayor and Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka ‘Wontumi’.
The NPP party gurus present had to literally go on their bended knees for several minutes while they passionately apologized to the Asantehene.
THE PUBLISHER, for ethical reasons, would not repeat the names of the exact persons reported to have been accused by the Asantehene of an attempt to undermine him.
Starr FM reports that Dr. Nana Agyenim Boateng, President of the Concerned Youth of Ashanti has confirmed the report and added that “everything they are saying about the Asantehene, he is in Manhyia Palace but he has heard of it…so it is a warning and an advice to them.”
Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Chairman Wontumi, is also quoted by Class FM to have said that he personally called one of the persons whose name was mentioned but the person categorically denied to have done such thing.
Later in the evening, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, told Citi Eye Witness news that although he was present at the Palace when the incident was supposed to have happened, he would never comment on it in public.
Reports suggest that Otumfuo was visibly-angry and was categorical that he was aware that some persons are trying to use their political power to maneuver to dent his positive image in the public domain.
He was reported to have said that the sacred Golden Stool, which he occupies has greatness in it and therefore an attempt by politicians to dent his image would certainly not succeed.
The Asantehene, who was very upset, sternly warned the accused persons to be careful because they are threading on dangerous ground by attempting to bring him (Otumfuo) and his Kingdom down.
Before Otumfuo would bring his statement to a close, the NPP gurus, led by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, quickly left their seats and knelt before him as they apologized continuously to the king.
Reports indicate that the NPP high-powered team continued apologizing whilst on their knees for some minutes before they were eventually ordered to stand on their feet by the chiefs that were present.
John Boadu was at the Manhyia Palace to seek Otumfuo’s blessings so that his ambition of being elected as NPP General Secretary would come to pass.
Otumfuo eventually gave him his blessings.
