The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has showered tons of praises on Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, describing him as an efficient leader.
According to the Asante King, Napo’s reign as the minister of education has led to massive transformation in the educational sector of the country, lauding him for his good works for the state so far.
The Asantehene said he was particularly thrilled about how Napo, who is also the Manhyia South Member of Parliament (MP), has worked to implement the free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
“I am highly impressed about the sacrifices and the work that you have done to ensure the smooth implementation of the free SHS programme, which is one of the best social intervention programmes.
“This spectacular policy is making a big difference in the lives of Ghanaians as it has enabled hundreds of thousands of Ghanaian students to get enrolled into senior high schools to study.
“But for the free SHS programme, which you worked hard to implement, students who come from poor homes in the country, would have been dropouts by now. Ghanaians are grateful to you”, he said.
The Asante King was speaking when Napo led a delegation from his ministry to pay a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace. He urged personnel of the Education Ministry to faithfully support Napo to deliver.
Otumfuo also observed that the free SHS programme has been the pillar behind the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration so far, saying that the policy has been welcomed by majority of Ghanaians.
According to him, the NPP government has become more popular because of the free SHS social intervention programme, adding that the Planting for Food Jobs policy is also making an impact in the lives of Ghanaians.
Napo, on his part, said he was extremely happy and humbled about the positive words from Otumfuo, stressing that the King’s positive words would spur him on to even work harder for the country.
