THE KUMASI International Airport project, which is nearing completion, will start full operations in June 2022, it has been announced.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, making the pleasant announcement, said there would be a major programme to open the airport in style.
According to him, he (Akufo-Addo) would fly in the same plane with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on the day to London to officially open the airport.
“Otumfuo, the Kumasi International Airport project is progressing as expected and the contractors have assured that it would be opened in June 2022.
“As the President of the land, I am stating today that on that glorious day, I will fly in the same plane with you from Kumasi to London and back”, he said.
President Akufo-Addo, who is currently on a four-day working tour in the Ashanti Region, was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene.
According to him, before his visit to Otumfuo at the Manhyia Palace on Friday, he had toured the construction site of the Kumasi International Airport.
He said he was impressed about how the airport project was progressing “they will test the airport in January 2022, ahead of its grand opening in June 2022”.
President Akufo-Addo also said the Boankra Inland project, which was stalled for sometime, would see the light of day very soon as works would start soon.
He thanked Otumfuo and Asanteman for their support towards his December 2020 election victory, and said “I still need your support to succeed”.
