Otumfuo Speaks At UN General Assembly Today
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is set to address the United Nations General Assembly today.
The Monarch, who left Ghana weeks ago, had stayed in the US capital of Washington DC for some few days, attending to both private and official programmes, some of which he had appeared as Special Guest of Honour.
Significantly, he is in New York to deliver an address to mark the 20th anniversary of the General Assembly Resolution 53/243 on the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace.
The Asantehene and his entourage which includes Juabenhene, Nana Otuo Serebuo, were accorded a befitting welcome to New York City.
Ghanaians living in New York, including Asantes and people from other Ghanaian tribes, who had heard about the Asante King’s visit, in unison, gathered to also welcome the Asantehene to New York.
Interestingly, some Africa nationals living and working in New York and other neighbouring areas in the US, also came to officially welcome Otumfuo, whose body language indicated that he was happy.
In a related development, the Asantehene has tasked Africa nationals in the Diaspora to contribute to the proper development of the continent so that challenges facing the continent would be defeated.
Otumfuo was addressing scores of dignitaries, including prominent Africa and Ghanaians nationals after he had visited the African Union Representational Mission to the United States.
