THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, yesterday stormed the St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church in a grand fashion to mark his 23rd anniversary on the Golden Stool of Asanteman.
Clad in splendid-looking ‘Kente’ cloth, with gold ornaments to match and supported by his wife, Lady Julia, the Asante Monarch was in church to thank God for being the pillar behind his reign, so far.
The Asantehene, who was beaming with broad smiles, was seen joining the huge congregation that had jammed the big auditorium as they sang praises to God for his mercies and protection for the King.
The church service, which was characterized by the singing of praises and worship, was attended by scores of powerful paramount and divisional chiefs and queen mothers in Asanteman.
At a certain stage during the service, some few selected dignitaries were seen being given the rare opportunity to wish the Asantehene well for his 23 years milestone as the head of the Asante Kingdom.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the age of 49 and then known in private life as Barimma Kwaku Duah, was enstooled as the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool, succeeding his late brother, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II.
Immediately he took office, the Asantehene, who has proven to be a peace and development-oriented traditional leader, introduced some positive measures to transform the famous Asante Kingdom.
Some of his known initiatives included the the Otumfuo Education Fund, which has benefited thousands of Ghanaian students, settling of chieftaincy disputes in Asanteman and several others.
He has also travelled wide across the globe to interact with prominent world leaders, including Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom (UK) and also delivered an address at the United Nations (UN) in the US.
Indeed the Asantehene’s 23 years reign has been filled with successes, achievements, peace and the transformation of Asanteman. The staff management and staff of THE NEW PUBLISHER wishes Otumfuo a happy anniversary!!!
