Otumfuo Strikes at Manhyia

NANA ANTWI Agyei Brempong II, the Atwimahene, has been destooled for breaching some strict traditional rules in Asanteman.

His overlord and 16^th occupant of the Golden Stool, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, dethroned the chief at the Manhyia Palace at a traditional sitting of the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) recently.

Nana Agyei Brempong was, in addition to other serious charges, found guilty of disrespecting the Golden Stool and the Asantehene.

Otumfuo, who presided over the meeting, did not mince words, as he handed the order for the summary destoolment of the Atwimahene.

Reports suggest that, going by the mood on the faces of the attendants, one can guess that the shocking destoolment of Nana Agyei Brempong II had ignited fear and panic among other chiefs of the KTC.

Sources said the Asantehene had resolved to punish any traditional leader on the council, who would be found guilty of any unpardonable offense.

Otumfuo’s ultimate power in the Asante Kingdom is visible within and beyond Asanteman. He is considered one of the most respected and powerful traditional leaders alive.
