Otumfuo Visits Okyenhene at Kyebi
History will be written on Thursday, August 23, this year, as the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, journeys from Kumasi, in the Ashanti region, to Akyem Abuakwa, in the Eastern region as a special guest of the overlord of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Osageyfuo Amotia Ofori Panin.
Officials at the Manhyia Palace have disclosed that the Asantehene accepted to honour an invitation to be part of a historic programme organized by the chiefs and people of Akyem Abuakwa in memory of the late Okyenhene, Nana Ofori Atta, because he believed the peoples of Asanteman and Okyeman are one.
According to THE PUBLISHER’S sources at the Manhyia Palace, the official seat of the Asantehene, Otumfuo would travel with several paramount chiefs from the Asante Kingdom to Akyem Abuakwa.
There have been reports of cold rivalry between Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin, but officials of the two traditional leaders have continually debunked the allegations.
The Okyenhene recently traveled to Kumasi, where he played golf with the Asantehene at the Royal Golf Club. The two dignitaries later on dined together at the Manhyia Palace.
The Asantehene’s decision to reciprocate the Okyenhene’s earlier visit could clear any doubts about the cordiality of the relationship between the two royal personalities.
