OV Arrests 4 Chinese Galamseyers

The Operation Vanguard Joint Taskforce (JTF) on Monday, 21 May 2018, arrested four Chinese and a Ghanaian for illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) at Asendua near Hiawa in the Amenfi Central District of the Western Region.

The Chinese suspects are Tan Zhonguang, 41; Wei Wenzxue, 40; Li Shiping, 54; and Wei Hue Lim, 35; were apprehended on-site, together with Kwabena Acheampong, 44; while some others managed to flee the scene.

The patrol team impounded an excavator with chassis number SYO33DBG52838 at the site and sent it to the Manso Amenfi Central District assembly.

The team also seized one locally-manufactured single-barreled gun with three ammunitions and destroyed two water-pumping machines.

The suspects and the exhibits have been handed over to the Manso Central Police station pending further investigations.
