Over 50 Celebs Default in Car Payment from MASLOC
Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) has disclosed that it will deal with some entertainment personalities for failing to pay for cars they bought on credit.
Maame Afua Akoto, Deputy CEO of MASLOC, stated in a Facebook post that, “Please inform all celebrities with MASLOC cars to kindly rush to honour their obligations. The time is ticking, Tag and share.”
Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), is a microfinance apex body responsible for implementing the government of Ghana’s microfinance program, targeted at reducing poverty, check job creation and wealth. Under the program, some entertainment personalities were given cars on loan.
Speaking in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with Andy Dosty, Maame Afua Akoto confirmed that some celebrities have not paid a dime since they received the cars.
According to her, “Over the years, Ghanaians have taken MASLOC [as] some ex-gratia of some sort and when they take any of our facilities, they are a bit sluggish in redeeming their image.
“This time around, for Christ’s sake and for the institution to benefit those that it was set up for, we are not going to take anything for granted and we are going all out, irrespective of who you are, to make sure you pay whatever has been given out,” she said.
Asked to confirm reports that 22 cars were given to the celebrities, Maame Afua Akoto said more than 50 cars were given out.
Although she did not disclose the identities of the entertainment personalities, she revealed that, “The cars are not 22, they are more than 50, I think those in Accra are even more than 50 and there are some in Kumasi. They also signed forms that they would pay.”
