Pakistani Businessman Convicted Over Unregistered Company

An Accra Circuit Court has convicted a Pakistani national for sentence today for failing to register his businesses with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).

The convict, Mohammed Sadd had been dragged before the court for refusing to register his company, PAK Mobile Limited with the Centre as required by law.

Sadd had refused earlier calls by the GIPC to register the company located at Tiptoe Lane a suburb of Accra.

It is the case of the prosecution led by ASP Man-Anit Sampana that Sadd on or before April 24 last year in Accra intentionally and unlawfully refused to register his company with the GIPC.

Sadd at his appearance in court yesterday admitted the charge although he had vehemently denied same on November 7, 2017 when he was first arraigned.

The trial judge, Mrs. Afi Agbanu Kudornor however set today to sentence the convict.

The facts of the case are that GIPC as part of its monitoring activities gathered that there were some foreign owed companies operating in the Accra Metropolis who have not registered with the GIPC before commencement of operations as required by law.

Based on this information, GIPC wrote to the Register General Department in Accra to ascertain the ownership of these companies.

According to ASP Sampana, facts received from the Register General Department disclosed that Muhammadu Shakir and Shafi Shatter, Pakistani nationals have registered Pak Mobile Limited at Tiptoe Lane as their company to deal in general trading, import and export services.

It was however found out that Sadd was trading mobile phone accessories in the shop and that on April 24, 2017 GIPC wrote to the convict inviting him to come and register with the GIPC before May 24, 2017.

The senior police officer further stated that Sadd received the letter but refused to register on the due date with the GIPC.
