Panic Hits Kotoko Players Over Contract Renewal
PANIC HAS hit the playing body of Kumasi Asante Kotoko F/C following reports that the club will not be renewing contracts of some players for the next season.
The contracts of some 14 players, who featured prominently for the team last season, have expired, reports indicate. And while virtually all the 14 players are willing to renew their stay with the current FA Cup holders for the next football season, indications are that not all of them will be given the green light.
Information reaching THE PUBLISHER SPORTS suggest that the management is prepared to prolong the stay of only seven out of the 14 players.
This development is said to have ignited fear and anxiety among the playing body as nobody knows who will fall on the sword.
Kotoko would be participating in the Africa Confederations Cup Competition next season after winning the Ghana FA Cup trophy.
Africa Preparation
In a bid to put the team in good shape, Kotoko on Thursday started preparations for both the Confederations Cup and next season’s Premier League at the Adako Jarchie Training grounds.
Interestingly, training has started in the absence of the team’s expatriate head trainer, Steve Polack.
Sources say the other technical handlers of the club would hold the fort during training until Polack, who is currently on holiday, returns in December.
The team’s performance in the last season did not impress management, hence the decision to start early training so they can smoothen the rough edges ahead of the start of the new league.
