The founder and President of the Nyarkotey College of Holistic Medicine, Dr. Raphael Nyarkotey Obu, has called on government to speed up the passage of the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Bill which has been neglected .
According to him, the passage of the Bill would streamline the profession and open up more opportunities for practitioners.
Speaking at Gold Coast Excellence Awards (GCEA), held over the weekend, the Ghanaian Scientist cited how India and China amongst others, are making billions of dollars from their traditional medicine adding that medicine has evolved and the world is moving towards integrative medicine which Ghana has to embrace.
Dr. Nyarkotey further charged researchers and scientists to conduct further research work on traditional and Alternative Medicine.
“China is making huge sums of money from green tea production and we could also make huge sums of money from hibiscus tea production which research has proven to be more potent than green tea,” he said.
He urged government to consider tea production under its flagship programme, the One District, One Factory.
Gold Coast Excellence Award
The Nyarkotey College of Holistic Medicine at the event won a Gold Coast Excellence Awards(GCEA).
Organised by NMJ Ghana, the GCEA was established to recognise and honour the most outstanding achievements of professionals in their field.
It also encapsulates various categories which cover a wide range of industries.
The College
The Nyarkotey college of Holistic Medicine, being the first Naturopathic Medical School offering two to five years Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine using the international curriculum for Naturopathic Medical practitioners, was established in 2018.
The college is recognized and accredited by the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Practice Council of the Ministry of Health based on Traditional Medicine Practice Act 575.
The college currently has close to 30students.
Successful graduands of the college write the professional qualifying exams conducted by the Traditional Medicine Council.
The college beats competition from Medi Moses Prostate centre, Amen Scientific Herbal Hospital and many others to be crown the winner of Excellence in Alternative Medicine.
The college currently has two campuses: Ashaiman behind the Municipal Assembly and Tema Community 7, post office.
