Past Gov’t Failed Us― Ashaiman Chief
The Chief of Ashaiman, Nii Annan Adzor I, has called on government to be more committed to the health prospects of citizens living within his catchment area.
According to him governments-past and present-have failed when it comes to ensuring that the people of Ashaiman get proper healthcare.
Speaking at a public lecture on Alternative Medicine at Ashaiman last Saturday, Nii Annan Adzor lamented that with a population of over 400,000 the people of Ashaiman do not have a government hospital.
“In 2012 election campaign, the previous government promised the people of Ashaiman that they were going to build a 100-bed capacity hospital for the people of Ashaiman…till today, I can say that we are still waiting to dig the foundation,” he recounted.
He noted that six years after an unfulfilled promise of a 100-bed medical facility, the people of Ashaiman can only be grateful to the private sector for bringing to their doorsteps some interventions to ease them of their healthcare burden.
Nii Annan Adzor said, “The private sector in Ashaiman handles more than 70 per cent of healthcare services to the people. That tells you that the private sector is the engine of growth…everything in Ashaiman is private sector-led.”
Government’s neglect, according to the people of Ashaiman, is not only in the health sector, but extends to other spheres, including education.
“If you go to our educational sector, it is the private schools because government has only two or three schools in Ashaiman. It is private all the way,” the chief noted.
He therefore applauded the private sector in Ashaiman for their efforts to bring healthcare to the people.
The public lecture was organised by the Dr. Nyarkotey College of Holistic Medicine and is the first ever lecture on Alternative Medicine.
