Hundreds of people from all walks of life turned up last Saturday, July 28, to support Hiplife musician, Okyeame Kwame on his walk to mark World Hepatitis Day.
The walk, organised by the Okyeame Kwame Foundation, is part of activities the musician embarked on to mark World Hepatitis Day, which is commemorated every year on July 28.
Okyeame Kwame had done the rounds in the media drumming up support for the walk and the people responded turning up in their numbers.
His celebrity friends including Prince David Osei, Moesha Buduong, Akumaa Mama Zimbi, Naa Ashorkor, Wutah Afriyie, Abraham Ohene Djan among others also turned up for the event which started at 6.20 am at the forecourt of Silver Star Towers at Airport in Accra with aerobics.
Participants then hit the streets for walk and they went through the 37 Military Hospital, the Switch Back road and back to the Silver Star Towers.
The celebs came out to support Okyeame Kwame
Stakeholders like the Red Cross, Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, Ghana Police Service, the army, various teachers’ associations as well as the general public also joined in the walk which was given a nice flavour with the jama tunes from the police personnel.
Some minutes after the walk ended, the free screening and vaccination for Hepatitis B started and a number of people used the opportunity to get tested.
In an interview with Showbiz, Okyeame Kwame said he was overwhelmed by the huge turn-out especially as this was the first edition of the walk.
“This is the first time we included a walk as part of the activities, I am amazed by the huge turn-out. I want to use this opportunity to thank everyone who made it,” he said.
There was an aerobics sessions before the walk started
Okyeame Kwame pleaded with individuals, corporate bodies and the government to support the project because his outfit has plans to treat patients with Hepatitis B.
“The treatment is very expensive and this time around, I will be needing support from everywhere for the treatment,” he said.
Showbiz spoke to some of the celebs on why they joined the Rap Dacta’s walk.
Actor Prince David Osei, said Okyeame Kwame is one of his favourite musicians and he didn’t hesitate to join because he wants to always support a good cause.
“Aside supporting Okyeame Kwame, I think the walk is a good exercise and I encourage everyone to join next year,” he said.
The participants carried placards that encouraged people to get tested for Hepatitis B
Poet and Spoken Word artist, Rhymesonny, congratulated Okyeame Kwame for his efforts in creating awareness for Hepatitis B. He said he will never refuse an invitation from Okyeame Kwame because the musician has a positive mind.
Radio and TV personality, Akumaa Mama Zimbi, also said she was supporting a good cause and she will always avail herself if Okyeame Kwame calls.
