Some concerned chiefs and residents of Somanya in the Lower Manya Traditional Area of the Eastern Region, have staged a demonstration against the leadership of the Paramount Chief of Manya Krobo, Konor Nene Sakite II.
The group said they will no longer tolerate the wanton sale of family lands and authoritarian rule by Nene Sakite II over the five royal divisions of the area.
The aggrieved group indicated that the posture of the Konor is impeding development in the area, as he refuses to engage elders and opinion leaders in making some key decisions.
Dressed in red attire, armbands and headgear, scores of residents marched through the principal streets of Lower Manya Krobo and carried placards to register their displeasure on Thursday, 20 December 2018.
Some of the placards read: ‘Krobos are not descendants of Odorkor Azu’, ‘Nene Sackite II cannot be a peacemaker’, ‘Stop looting Krobo mountain’, ‘The worst Konor we ever had’, ‘Sackite is a curse to Kroboland’ and ‘Konor is a dictator.’
The group petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo to launch an inquiry into the conduct of Nene Sakite II and sanction him where necessary.
