The United States First Lady, Melania Trump, yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Oguaa, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, who doubles as President of the Oguaa Traditional Council in the Central Region
The Paramount Chief of Cape Coast Traditional Area, Osaabarima Kwesi Atta IV, and his chiefs met the US First Lady During a colourful durbar to welcome her, hundreds of people trooped to the Palace to catch the glimpse of what the traditional leaders and the first lady would discuss.
Dressed in colourful kente clothes, the chiefs were full of smiles as they interact with Mrs. Trump.
Mrs. Trump was met at the Kotoka International Airport on Tuesday by Ghana’s First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
The tour, which also takes in Kenya, Malawi and Egypt, will focus on promoting health and education.
Mrs Trump was welcomed with a traditional dance at the Kotoka International Airport and ushered into the country officially by Ghana’s First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
The two first ladies visited the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, where Mrs Trump donated hampers and teddy bears to the sick children on admission.
She also donated a phototherapy machine used for treating complications of jaundice in newborn babies, to the hospital.
Later in the afternoon, she had tea at the Jubilee House and met with staff of the American Embassy in Ghana.
The trip to Ghana, organised by USAID, is part of Mrs Trump’s ‘Be Best’ campaign, which aims to improve child welfare, especially when it comes to online behaviour and addiction to opioids.
She will also visit Malawi, Kenya and Egypt to complete her week-long visit to Africa.
Mrs Trump’s week-long trip to the continent is seen as helping to heal some of the divisions.
