National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has finally honored the invitation of the Criminal Investigative Department (CID).
Mr. Ampofo was accompanied by top NDC lawyers like Tony Lithur and former Attorney General Marietta Brew.
He was invited by the CID last Thursday in connection with an audio in circulation in which a voice alleged to be that of him is heard saying that the party deployed the Azorka boys to help protect its members during the Ayawaso by-election.
In the leaked audio, Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo told party communicators that “we’re going to take her [EC boss] to the cleaners.”
“As for the EC chair, we must wage a relentless war on this EC chair. Me, she doesn’t want to see my face,” Ofosu-Ampofo allegedly said at the meeting which took place after the Ayawaso by-election.
As part of strategic communication plans for the NDC going into the 2020 elections, Ofosu-Ampofo also gave his blessings for the communicators to verbally attack the Peace Council chairman Professor Emmanuel Asante.
The NDC has subsequently vehemently denied the contents of the leaked tape.
The party in a statement described the leaked tape as “concocted and false.” Mr. Ofosu Ampofo’s comment has however, been supported the NDC presidential aspirant, John Dramani Mahama.
