This year’s Piloloo Ga-Homowo Trade Carnival, which was launched on Wednesday, has promised to help Ghanaian traders in the Greater Accra Region to rake in revenue from the Homowo festival.
ReissBonney Company Limited (RCL), the main organiser of the event, has decided to spread its tentacles to other Ga-Adangme communities such as Nungua, Ada, Ga Mashie, Tema and Osu.
The CEO of RCL, Reiss Arnold Bonney, urged Ghanaians to take advantage of traditional festivals in the country to make economic gains and stop relegating festivals to the background.
“The enthusiasm of Ghanaians towards our local festivals is very low and this is very worrying looking at the level of unemployment in the country”, he said.
He also touched on the lack of sponsorship for such an important initiative, adding that most companies do not value the local festivals and do not believe in the feasibility of such events.
“Most companies do not see the need for the Homowo Trade carnival and it has been very difficult to get them on board. Even though this year is better as we have gotten some sponsorship from a few companies, there’s still more room for improvement”, Mr. Bonney remarked.
The carnival train is said to start on the 19th of July in Nungua then to Ada, then to Tema, then to Ga Mashie and then to a climax at Osu.
It is expected to see the presence of the locals, foreigners, Queen mothers, MCEs and other dignitaries.
The Piloloo Ga-Homowo Trade Carnival will see the display of goods and services by traders in very organised chalets. The displayed items will range from clothes, foodstuff, footwear, bags and others.
It promises to be an exciting period with economic and cultural benefits to the locals. The carnival will see events like durbars, talent exhibitions and cultural displays.
Traders are assured of security for them and their wares during the period, and of transportation to all the venues for the carnival.
