Plot to stop NPP conference uncovered
The national conference of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is scheduled to come off in Cape Coast later later this month, is in danger as some disgruntled party members are plotting to scuttle the event.
The paper has uncovered a criminal and satanic scheme by people associated with former executives suspended by the NPP council of elders in 2015 to make sure the party and president Akufo-Addo are humiliated.
This followed credible report the paper received from sources who attended meetings held by these suspended executives, detailing the modus operandi of the steps to ensure that the conference is aborted.
Part of the plot, according to the information gleaned, is to file legal suit against the party in which the capacity of the Acting General Secretary John Boadu and that of the Acting Chairman Freddie Blay to organize national conference will be challenged.
A source at one of the meetings held recently in East Legon revealed that the plan was hatched by a bitter suspended national officer whose request for appointment into the Akufo-Addo government was vehemently opposed by a section of the party followers, especially those on Facebook.
Commenting on the said plot in a telephone interview, Acting General secretary John Boadu said his outfit has no knowledge of such plot but added that he did not think any true NPP member will do such a thing.
He explained that the conference which is a constitutional requirement, will afford the Party the opportunity to review its activities and put in place appropriate systems and measures for its smooth operation.
The conference, according to John Boadu, will take decisions regarding some proposed constitutional amendments and replace all of its national executives who have been appointed to serve in government.
The NPP in 2015 suspendedGeneral Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong; National Chairman Paul Afoko, and second national vice chairman Sammy Crabbeindefinitely for breaching the constitution of the party.
Paul Afoko later went to court to reverse the decision but failed.
He was suspended for refusing to appear before a Disciplinary Committee set up to investigate some allegations that had been leveled against him.
Sammy Crabbe also challenged the status of the Disciplinary Committee and refused to appear before it, resulting in his suspension.
Like Paul Afoko, he went to court for reversal of the decision but failed to convince the court to reinstate him.
Other leading members, Nyaho NyahoTamakloe,Dr Charles Wereko–Brobby, Dr Arthur Kennedy and many more were suspended for breaching party constitution.
The duo of Dr Arthur Kennedy and Dr NyahoTamakloe in particular, have consistently criticized Nana Akufo-Addo and blamed him for everything that happened within the NPP in the last eight years.
However, they are yet to criticize him for ensuring NPP’s victory in the last election.
