Polack To Drag Kotoko To Court
Disgruntled Steve Polack is set to battle Kumasi Asante Kotoko in court for what he describes as an unlawful dismissal by the club after he was axed last Friday.
The British coach, who was fired immediately after the Porcupine Warriors’ elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup by CARA Club of Congo in Brazzaville last Wednesday, has referred the matter to his lawyers who are now studying the documents for the necessary action.
A source close to Coach Polack, who revealed this to the Graphic Sports yesterday, said the Birmingham-born trainer was peeved about his dismissal, insisting that he did not deserve such a despicable treatment from Kotoko.
In his view, the management did not use the right approach to terminate his one-year contract, hence his decision to fight Kotoko tooth and nail in court to ensure justice before going away with the $16,000 compensation.
According to the source, the coach rather preferred the management of Kotoko to be fired and not the technical team because the management had fired four coaches within 16 months of being in office.
“They say coaches are hired and fired but I don’t understand why they sacked me. I am European, not an African, to just take the money ($16,000 compensation) and say bye bye and walk away.”
“My lawyers have told me that I should relax and that they will go all the way to find a solution to this issue and until that is done I am not leaving here”, a livid Polack told the source.
“How long has this management been in office? They have already changed four coaches but nobody is questioning that. The problem is not with the technical direction of the club; it is with the management,” Polack said.
The 57-year-old tactician was hired last May as a replacement for Croatian Zdravko Logarusic early last season, but the Porcupine Warriors still struggled to find their feet, finishing fifth on the league table after surviving a tragic motor accident during the season.
However, Kotoko made sure to finish the season with a major silverware under Polack by beating arch-rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, 3-1 in the MTN FA Cup final to secure a ticket for the CAF Confederation Cup, only to exit in the first round last week after losing 6-7 on penalties in the return leg in Brazzaville.
The shocking exit infuriated the teeming fans of the club, forcing management to show Polack the exit on the team’s return from Congo.
