The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with violence that erupted at Salaga on Tuesday after Damango was named by President Akufo-Addo as the regional capital for the newly created Savannah region.
According to the PRO of the Northern regional command Yusiff Tanko, the situation has been brought under control and more police personnel have been deployed to the area.
He further disclosed that, the suspects were quickly identified and seven of them subsequently arrested, adding that, “Police in the region are investigating the matter and the process of identifying and arresting more suspects is currently underway”
He, therefore, urged the people of Salaga to remain calm and not to take the law into their hands and help in identifying more suspects in connection with the violence.

Some youth members of the New Patriotic Party set ablaze the party’s constituency office following the announcement of Damongo as the capital of the Savannah region.
The angry rampaging youth also chased out the constituency chairman claiming that they are disappointed by the President’s decision to name Damongo as the capital of the newly created Savannah region.
Several properties belonging to the party in the area have also been destroyed by the angry youth.
