Police Arrests 300 Suspected Criminals, Sex Workers in Kumasi
Police in the Ashanti region have arrested over 300 suspected criminals and commercial sex workers.
The arrests were carried out across the region in a day’s swoop.
Monitoring the development for Starr News, Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice reported that the suspects are currently being screened at the Regional Police Command.
The screening, he told Starr Midday News host Naa Dedei Tetteh, was aimed at gathering enough evidence for the suspects to be arraigned before the courts.
He said the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Issac Ken Yeboah, after briefing the media on the arrest, noted that his outfit realised that Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti region was no longer safe for business thus the swoop.
According to Bediako Justice, Ken Yeboah warned that “no influential person should make an attempt to come to him to plead on behalf of the suspects”.
The Regional Command further indicated that the Nigerian High Commissioner has already informed him of a planned visit to discuss the conditions of Nigerian prostitute.
Ultimate News’ investigations in June uncovered a Ghanaian-Nigerian syndicate that lures girls from Nigeria into prostitution under the pretext of securing them jobs in Ghana.
The girls who were between the ages of 13 and 30 were swayed with promises of lucrative jobs in the country but end up in brothels in Asafo a suburb of Kumasi noted for prostitution.
They were threatened, oppressed and forced to offer sex for money. The then Money goes to overlords whom they call madams. Also, they were forced to go through blood rituals where the hair on their vagina, head and blood from their fingernails are used for concoction.
