Police chase National Service scam agents

THE SECURITY agencies are hunting to arrest some fraudsters who attempted to use the upcoming 2022/23 National Service postings in the country to dupe prospecting applicants of their monies.

According to the management of the National Service Scheme (NSS), headed by Osei Assibey Antwi, these fraudsters have created WhatsApp and Facebook groups with moderators parading as agents of the Scheme for their dubious and nefarious activities.

These faceless criminals who hide behind virtual cyber space have publicly stated that they have what it takes to help prospective personnel across the country to check their postings for a fee before it is officially released by the NSS.

The fraudsters are therefore charging their victims (prospective personnel) a fee, ranging from GHC 12 to GHC 20.

Interestingly, the NSS management insists they have no hand in such a dubious business so the public has been urged to take note.

“The security agencies are on the alert to track the culprits and get them to face full rigours of the law”, Armstrong Esaah, the Corporate Affairs Director, NSS, has boldly disclosed in a press statement.

According to him, these faceless people, who are yet to be arrested, have virtually taken over the social media platforms where they have been spreading wild lies and reports about the upcoming NSS postings.

“According to the dubious online reports from ‘NSS NTC GES updates’, all 2022 NSS applicants who wish to view their places of posting before it is officially released should call or WhatsApp 0506089181 or join a telegram platform, http://t.me/gesupdate.

“Another of such fraudulent message in social media reads: NSS applicants who have finished their online application and wish to have a look at where they have been posted to before official release should contact +233504224144, with monetary bidding of Gh 12 checking fee. However, those who want their checking done before payment would pay Gh 20”,

The NSS management, Armstrong Esaah said “wishes to reiterate that the Scheme does not operate WhatsApp of Telegram groups with moderators parading as agents of the NSS”. He said these people intend tainting the credibility of the NSS administration, but they would fail.

“For the record, the management of the NSS has not yet done postings for the 2022/2023 national service personnel”, noting “prospective service personnel are also cautioned to desist from involving themselves in such negative acts and assist the security personnel to expose those perpetrators”.
