THREE suspects, Akwasi Anane, 32, Daniel Kofi Yirenkyi, 35 and 32-year-old Osei Abrokwa, have been apprehended by the Ashanti Regional police for their alleged involvement in car fraud.
The suspects, who are yet to be arraigned, were grabbed following numerous reports regarding their activities in the city over the years.
ASP Godwin Ahianyo, Ashanti Regional Police PRO, who confirmed the story to the media on Friday, said the trio usually feign interest in buying a car and submit a fake cheque, only to take the car away.
They would then prepare fake documents to cover the vehicle and send it to a garage for loan.
The fraudsters, according to the police, would then call the original owner of the car to ‘alert’ him/her that the car had been spotted at a certain garage.
ASP Ahianyo said luck eluded the trio as they were arrested whilst trying to defraud another unsuspecting victim.
He admonished car owners in the country to be extra careful so they don’t fall prey to car fraudsters.
