Police Guns Down 3 Robbers
The scene was comparable to a made-in-Hollywood action blockbuster movie as a group of armed robbers engaged men from the Ghana Police Service is a gun no holds barred gun battle Wednesday dawn in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.
During the gun battle, the Police managed to shot to death, three of the hardened highway armed robbers.
One other suspected robber who was part of the gun battle escaped from the scene but luck eluded him when he was chased and caught by an angry mob that lynched him instantly.
Two more of them are however on the run after they fled at breakneck speed in a taxi.
The lifeless bodies of the four have been dumped at the St. Martins Catholic Hospital morgue at Agroyesum.
ASP Juliana Obeng, the Ashanti Regional Police, Public Relations Officer (PRO), made the disclosure during a press conference in Kumasi.
She said the robbers, five in number, alighted from an Opel taxi cab and quickly blocked Manso Kensiri to Manso Adubia road with logs.
The police PRO said police got the information around 3am about invasion of the place by robbers so they (police) moved to the scene at once.
Before the police patrol team from Manso Nkwanta could get out from their vehicle, the suspected robbers started to spray them with bullets sporadically.
The armed policemen opened fire in response and three of the suspected criminals were gunned down in the process.
In the course of the gun battle, two of the robbers took advantage of the dark nature of the area, and escaped with the taxi cab.
ASP Obeng disclosed that later in the day police received a worrying report that one of the escaped robbers had been lynched by a mob.
The police, she said, had intensified a hunt for the arrest of the remaining robber, who is still at large. She called for public support to trace him.
