A TOTAL of 46 suspected criminals in Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti region, have been apprehended by the police following separate swoops at some selected hideouts in the city on Friday.
The swoop was conducted on known criminal dens at Asafo BB, Oforikrom, Bantama, Kwadaso Borla, Suame, Krofrom, Railways and Adum, the police has informed the media in Kumasi.
Addressing journalists during a press conference, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Ken Yeboah, disclosed that the swoop was conducted simultaneously.
He said the police gathered information that some suspected criminals were hiding at known ghettos in the city and he quickly dispatched some armed men to storm the aforementioned ghettos.
COP Yeboah explained that the swoop formed part of the police’s strategy to get rid of hardened criminals in Kumasi adding that dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp were found on the suspects, whose ages range between 20 and 35 years. A number of unregistered motorbikes were also impoubded.
The Commander said the suspects would soon be paraded in public for identification before they are processed for court.
