Police Investigate Fire Outbreak at Asuom SHS Boy’s Dormitory
A boy’s dormitory of the Asuom Senior High School in the Kwaebibirm District of the Eastern region has been consumed by fire, Sunday.
According to reports, the fire started in the morning at about 7:00 am when students were at church service, destroying several properties belonging to the male students.
In all, three rooms were affected by the fire with one room completely consumed by the flames.
A teacher of the school who doubles as Assemblyman for the area, Abrefa Busia, he first noticed smoke billowing from one of the rooms which is very close to his residence.
Mr Busia said students were called to help salvage the situation while they waited for personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service to help deal with the situation.
He lamented, however, that students, teachers and some good Samaritans gave up after trying to put the fire out due to its ferocious nature.
The Assemblyman said it took the timely intervention of firefighters to put out the consuming fire.
The Police said they suspect arson with two people already in custody. Investigations have started into the cause of the fire.
