INVESTIGATIONS ARE currently underway to determine the cause of death of a 12-year-old girl at Mfensi, near Abuakwa, in the Ashanti Region.
The father of the now deceased girl, on February 19, 2022, reported to the police that his daughter (name withheld) gulped ‘Weedicide’ to end her life.
According to the father, one Yeboah Emmanuel, his daughter was an Epileptic patient, and she consumed the poisonous chemical on February 17.
So far, the police have not officially established as to whether an intake of Weedicide, a poisonous chemical, resulted in the painful death of the girl.
Also, even if the girl indeed died because of a Weedicide, the police are yet to find out if she consumed it herself or somebody forced it through her throat.
“Coroner’s forms is being prepared for the information of the District coroner for postmortem to be performed on the body”, a police report has indicated.
It said Yeboah Emmanuel, lodging his complaint on February 19, said her daughter was rushed to the hospital after she consumed the Weedicide.
According to the distraught father, her daughter’s condition was not improving so she was referred to KATH in Kumasi, where she unfortunately perished.
“On 19/02/22 about 18:00hours, Yeboah Emmanuel of Mfensi, came to Abuakwa station and reported that on 17/02/22 about 10:30hours his daughter, aged 12 now deceased, and who was an epileptic patient, took weedicide and drunk.
“She was rushed to Akropong Health Center for treatment but she was transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, where she died shortly when undergoing treatment”.
The police report, seen by THE NEW PUBLISHER, said the body has since been deposited in a morgue, possibly for preservation and autopsy very soon.
The results of the autopsy would go a long way to determine as to whether Weedicide, a dangerous chemical, caused the sudden death of the young girl.
Meanwhile, no arrest had been made yet in connection with the girl’s death when this report was being filed on Sunday afternoon, as investigations were still ongoing.
