Police Recover Ursula’s Stolen Car …Perpetrators On The Run

The swift intervention of the Ghana Police Service has led to the recovering of a pickup truck, stolen from the private residence and office of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West last Monday.

The hooligans who broke into the residence of Hon. Ursula vandalized and looted the place taking away several items, including the pickup truck after Saturday’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections, in what is seen as widespread unrest across the whole country.

Addressing the press on December 12, Police Head of Public Affairs Directorate, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, announced that the vehicle is now at the Dansoman Police Station adding that, efforts are underway to apprehend the criminals involved.

“Crackdown on perpetrators of the post-election disturbances have resulted in the further arrest of 17 more people over the past 24 hours. The arrest of the 17 people brings to 123, the total number of suspects so far arrested. Also, through an intelligence-led operation, we have been able to recover the stolen Nissan Pickup vehicle belonging to Honourable Ursula Owusu-Ekuful. This vehicle was stolen from her office on Monday, December 9, 2024. The vehicle is now in the custody of the Dansoman Police. We are continuing our efforts to get the perpetrators behind this arrested.”

Reacting to the perpetrators who are on the run, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi indicated, “We would like to assure the public that we’ll stop at nothing to get them arrested to face justice. And for those on the run, we want to ask them: How long can you run, and those in hiding, how much longer do you intend to endure this self-imprisonment? Whatever you do, whatever it takes, we are coming for you, and we’ll get you arrested”.

In related development, Private legal practitioner Eric Owusu Sae has commended the Ghana Police Service for their handling of post-election incidents in parts of the country.

According to him, the police have exercised professional restraint and patience in managing the situation, preventing it from escalating and creating further tensions.

In a post on Facebook, Mr. Sae praised the conduct of the police before and after the election period.

“As expected, the 2024 elections have been peaceful, and the nation appears to be moving on. However, I have noticed isolated incidents of post-election tension in some parts of the country. It is commendable how the Ghana Police are handling these incidents.

He added, “So far, I’m yet to come across a report of assault on any citizen or gunshot by the police, which incidents are often associated with African elections. I expect more of such restraint and professionalism exhibited by the police to continue, as these traits are a function of a fledgling democracy.”
