A POLICE Inspector has been nabbed for robbery and efforts are being made to arrest his two accomplices including another policeman and a civilian driver.
Inspector Godwin Mensah was left behind as his two accomplices managed to flee after a police patrol team had stopped their speeding vehicle.
The three suspected robbers had forcefully seized an amount of GHC10, 000 from a gold dealer at Memerewa Number One, accusing him of dealing in gold without license.
The three suspects, including the two policemen who were in uniform, reportedly, had bundled the gold dealer in their car and they were speeding to Obuasi.
Unknown to them, the wife of the gold dealer had alerted the Obuasi Mile 9 Police Patrol Team on phone, who instantly obstructed the robber’s vehicle.
The other policeman and the driver quickly alighted from the Daewoo Matric taxi cab, registered AC 9310-18 and fled, immediately they saw the police patrol team.
Inspector Godwin Mensah, stationed at Agona Swedru could not run as fast as his cohorts so he was nabbed. He is said to be part of the Operation Vanguard at Obuasi.
The caged policeman was to have been on duty at Obuasi to help stop illegal mining in the mining town. But he rather decided to engage in robbery to get rich.
Wielding AK 47 assault rifles, the three robbers had succeeded in robbing the gold dealer of his GHC10,000, which was kept in a brown envelope.
The three robbers, two of whom were in police inform, were taking their victim in a car to unknown destination for reasons best known to them, when luck eluded them.
