A 24 YEAR old suspected kidnapper in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Regional capital, Michael Akwasi Agyeman was extremely lucky to have escaped death as he was a the verge of being lynched by a heartless mob when the police rescued him.
The suspected kidnapper suffered his fate on Thursday after he was found in the company of a five year-old girl at Patase.
During questioning, Akwasi Agyeman continued to give inconsistent answers so the people concluded he was a kidnapper.
A mob at Patase, in the Nhyiaeso Constituency in Kumasi, therefore subjected Akwasi Agyeman to swerve beatings in public.
The fiendish-looking mob looked set to end the life of Akwasi Agyeman but they were stopped in their tracks by the police.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed the case to the media, indicating that the suspect was being detained.
ASP Godwin Ahianyo, the police PRO, said his outfit sent men to the scene after reports that a kidnapper was being lynched.
According to him, when the police reached the scene on Thursday, the suspect was looking weak with bruises on his body.
The police patrol team, he said, managed to save the suspect, and rushed him to the police CID for further questioning.
“During interrogations, the suspect admitted to have attempted to kidnap the girl. He said one Eric Contracted him to do so.
“Meanwhile, despite being probed further, Akwasi Agyeman has so far failed to lead the police to the so-called Eric”.
ASP Ahianyo said Akwasi Agyeman was being detained in police custody, adding that the suspect would be arraigned very soon.
He also announced that the young and innocent five year-old girl, has since been reunited with her mother “she is in good health”.
