Police Seize Guns Over Ahwiaa Clashes
AT LEAST two locally-made pistols have been seized from some suspects arrested over the bloody clash that occurred at Ahwiaa near Kumasi on Saturday.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has so far made some key arrests and also seized sharp-looking machetes over the fierce clashes.
A police source hinted the paper that about seven suspects were apprehended on Saturday alone and it is likely the number will increase.
According to him, a joint police/military team would comb the area in the days ahead and apprehend all the troublemakers to face the law.
Bloody Clashes
Ahwiaa was temporarily turned into a war zone on Saturday morning as some youth in the area clashed, violently.
One faction of the youth were said to be celebrating the death of a popular teenage girl in the area with ‘Soloku’ tunes on Thursday afternoon.
The other faction attempted to join in the funeral celebrations and it resulted in a brawl, which saw one boy stabbed.
On Saturday morning, the youth faction from which the boy was stabbed also decided to retaliate the stabbing of their colleague and this, started some lawlessness in the area.
Both feuding parties caused destructions to vehicles, buildings, stores and many other valuable items on sight, resulting in mayhem in the town.
A joint police/military team from Kumasi was sent to restore law and order and the security agents managed to pick some of the key suspects and their weapons.
