THE ASHANTI Regional Police Command has sent quantities of suspected Cannabis also known as ‘Wee’, to a Forensic Laboratory in Accra for analysis.
The illegal items, were found on some suspected criminals in the Region, during a massive police swoop, which also led to the arrest of 522 suspects, recently.
The outcome of the analysis in the laboratory, would help the police to take the preferred charges against the suspects who had the illegal items on them during the swoop.
ASP Godwin Ahianyo, the Ashanti Regional Police PRO, addressing journalists in Kumasi, said police embarked on the swoop in all known ghettos in the region.
“As part of measures to rid the Region of criminal elements, all the 44 Police Districts in the Region embarked on a major swoop in known ghettos for criminals.
“In all, 522 suspects were apprehended and some of them had items, suspected to be cannabis on them. It will be taken to Forensic Laboratory for analysis”, he said.
ASP Ahianyo noted that the police also found offensive items such sharp-looking machetes and a pair of scissors as well as assorted mobile phones on some of other suspects.
He said those found culpable would be arraigned, adding that the police would create an album for the suspected criminals to help the police in tracking the activities of criminals.
