THE ASHANTI Regional Police Command has issued a stern warning to the public not to believe speculations by the public as the cause of the bloody clash between two youth groups at Ahwiaa.
The police have stated that they are still investigating the case to unearth what really influenced the two feuding groups to openly attack each other with offensive weapons.
The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Juliana Obeng stated that until the police officially state what caused the fracas whatever that is being spread in the public as the cause of the fight is a hoax.
Ahwiaa Clashes
Two feuding youth groups at Ahwiaa, caused a stir last week as they used dangerous weapons such as sharp-looking machete and metal objects to assault each other in the full glare of the fear-stricken public.
In the course of the clashes, which can be likened to scenes in Hollywood movies, one person was butchered to death and several others sustained life threatening injuries.
Since the incident, some of residents of Ahwiaa and even people who live far away from the area, have come out with different narrations, which they claimed was the cause of the brutal clashes in the area.
So far, reports that a fight over a certain teenage girl in the community seemed to have gained currency as what compelled the two feuding groups to throw caution to the wind and attack each other with dangerous weapons.
Police PRO
But ASP Julaina Obeng has insisted that all the different narrations in town, regarding what caused the fracas, are all wild rumours with no basis so the public should treat them with the greatest contempt.
Speaking on radio, the police PRO stated that the police are thoroughly investigating the dicey matter so that they would get to the bottom of what caused the brawl; urging the public not to believe in the wild rumours.
Meanwhile, about 50 people, mostly youth resident at Ahwiaa, have so far been arrested and arraigned before court in connection with the brutal clashes, which has sparked fear and tension among the residents of the hitherto peaceful area.
