THE PROBABILITY of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) embarking on a power-rationing programme is high, following reports that the power retail company in heavily indebted to the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO).
The Ashanti Regional ECG Communication Director, Erasmus Kyere Baidoo, who confirmed the debt to the media, however failed to disclose the quantum of indebtedness.
He said the development had compelled ECG to embark on a policy of virtually ‘chasing’ consumers that owe the ECG.
According to him, ECG had already started a disconnection exercise in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti region as a means of retrieving monies owed by its debtors.
“We have decided to disconnect customers that owe the ECG as a way of pressurizing them to pay”.
He said the ECG is determined to provide quality service to customers and called on consumers to make prompt payment to prevent any unpleasant disconnection at their homes and workshops.
